THE NEW AMERICAN BASSOON
with Jooyeon Chang, piano
The sound of the bassoon is historically recognized as that of the ancient, the foolish, and often the tragic. With a new wave of music for this unique instrument, composers of diverse backgrounds are celebrating its possibilities as a painter of the contemplative, lush, resilient, and metallic. Join faculty artist Cayla Bellamy for a second collection of contemporary works by American composers, including depictions of indigenous societies, regional landscapes, and the agony and joy of universal troubles, and our tenacity to overcome them.
Nancy Hill Cobb: Tumult and Tenacity
Denzel Washington: A Moment on the Coastal Plains
Adrienne Albert: Nightfall, from Circadia
Ann Gebuhr: Ghost Dance
Thomas Dempster: ahalugisdi unole (to quiet the wind)
Jeff Scott: Elegy for Innocence
