Just Getting Rollin’!
Virtuoso Series Concert
This concert includes several pieces that feature the lost art of rolling on marimba. A trend of marimbaist avoiding rolling as a means of sustain on the instrument has been revealed in most percussion pieces during the last 20 years. This program will feature several pieces that utilize the roll and the instruments “pipe organ” like sound, including a rendition of “Somewhere” from West Side Story, Yoshioka’s Suite No. 3 for solo marimba. The program will also include “Scherzo” for solo timpani by Tom Freer, Marimba and pre-recorded voice by Matt Curlee and “Walkin’ Down Coolidge” by Joseph Tompkins.
